Have you ever been to a concert and just be memorized by what you see? This doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s something you won’t forget. Set the scene, it’s 2014, your standing in the rain in the middle of Croke Park living your best life, when five lads the same age as you step into the stage and give one of the best stage performances you’ve seen. One Direction had that effect on all of us growing up.
Jump to today, all doing their own thing, releasing solo albums and competitively fighting for the No. 1 hot spot when all of a sudden BAM! Fine Line by Harry Styles is gifted to us. Now don’t get me wrong, the likes of Niall Horan's Flicker & some other solo releases are fantastic in their own right, and are stand alone albums, but Fine Line is something special. Why you might ask?
12 tracks of pure Bliss, blessing us all with the gift that keeps on giving on a heavyweight black & white coloured transparent vinyl and it only gets better. Watermelon Sugar, Adore You, Lights Up & To Be So Lonely are some of the belters that will not only have you head bopping at the bus stop on the way to work, but will also have you sobbing on the seat looking out the window in the rain like someone sort of 1990’s rom-com starring Hugh Grant or some sort.
The follow up to his self titled debut in 2017, Fine Line is one of those albums that you will compare every other album you listen to this year with it’s early release date, it sets a standard that needs to be met. Produced by some of the best producers in the industry, like Jeff Bhasker who has worked for some of the best like Alicia Keys, Drake & Kanye West, this album is a hot pick for us here at Vinyl8 and is definitely one to have in your collection.
Fine Line is an album that gets turned on first thing in the morning, and is repeated and repeated and once again, repeated for all it’s glory. I honestly don’t give praise like this to an album often but honestly it’s just too damn good.
Theses are the words of our man Ronan Dunne.
