We Will Always Love You the third release by Australian electronic group The Avalanches is a sample dreamscape littered with a multitude of collaborators. To say this was my sleeper hit of 2020 would be an understatement. What started out with some very clever marketing including a Morse code message of the album title and original release date on their website.To the album then being put on hold due to the pandemic closing down factories that pressed vinyl. Let me tell you the wait was worth it, with all this extra time to sit down and appreciate music I just keep coming back to We Will Always Love You.
Every listen through brings me a new little treat that I’ve missed in previous plays. From the silky smooth sound of MGMT on 'The Divine Chord' to the slick beat on 'Take Care In Your Dreaming' Feat. Denzel Curry, Tricky & Sampa the Great. When it comes to a collaborative albums, I think the list of artists on this might be up there with the best of all time.
Everyone from Rivers Cuomo, Neneh Cherry, Johnny Marr, Karen O to Jamie XX, Mick Jones and Vashti Bunyan which isn't even the full list. I know this has become something of a cliche but there really is something for everyone on this album and easily in my top 10 albums of 2020.
