I guess it would be very easy to dismiss Death Metal bands as just walls of noise with a vocalist that is just screaming at you. What Gojira do with Fortitude is prove that nothing could be further from the truth. Using mixtures of vocals and at times soaring guitar tracks, they create a very melodic sound.
Powerful drumbeats, heavy guitar and bass drive every track forward and obviously there is an intensity there but at no point does the sound overwhelm. It’s easy to see why Fortitude was named as one of the most anticipated metal albums.
Two stand out tracks for me and two I believe show the diversity and talent of Gojira are ‘Another World’ and ‘Into The Storm’. If you like your metal you already own this album, if you want to dip your toe into this genre then Gojira will definitely show you the way.
