Steve Cropper A.K.A. The Colonel, is one of the greatest guitar players of all time. Being a member of Booker T. & The M.G.’s, Stax Records house band, this man has played guitar with and co-wrote songs with some of the most influential artists of all time. Fire It Up, his new album is a celebration of the sound that has defined his career, magical bluesy guitar playing. There are no insane solo’s here this man knows the sound he wants to produce and can get there in the shortest amount of notes possible, sure there is always a bit of flair but this is a master class of economical brilliance.
He considers Fire It Up his first solo album since 1967, having released several collaboration albums. It’s amazing to think that he sounds just as smooth at 79 years of age than he ever did.
